In 2018, we celebrated 100 years of of studying and recording wildlife in and around the City of Sheffield. Looking to the future, we launched a Free Membership scheme for young people aged between 18 and 25.

Young people who join via the Free Membership scheme receive the society’s monthly newsletter and annual journal in digital (pdf) format, delivered by email. They can participate in a wide variety of activities (field meetings, species identification workshops, etc) as advertised in the society’s monthly newsletter.

The “terms and conditions” for the Free Membership scheme are as follows:

1. The Free Membership scheme is open to young people who are aged between 18 and 25 on the date on which they apply to join the society.

2. Participants may renew their membership free of charge on 1st January each year, provided they are still aged between 18 and 25.

3. Members who join (or renew their membership) via the Free Membership scheme will receive the society’s monthly newsletter and annual journal in digital format, delivered via an email link.

4. People wishing to join (or renew their membership) via the Free Membership scheme must provide a valid email address if they wish to receive the society’s publications and updates about the society’s activities.

5. Members who join (or renew their membership) via the Free Membership scheme are welcome to attend any of the society’s meetings, as advertised in the monthly newsletter; the majority of meetings are free-of-charge for members.

6. Members who join (or renew their membership) via the Free Membership scheme are welcome to attend the society’s Annual General Meeting, but do not have voting rights.

7. The Sorby Natural History Society reserves the right to reject applications for membership under the Free Membership scheme.

8. The Sorby Natural History Society reserves the right to withdraw the Free Membership scheme at any time.
