The meeting due to take place on Wednesday, 9 March 2016. It will now take place on Thursday, 10 March 2016 instead. All other details are the same (see our March Newsletter)

The leader, Derek Whiteley, said:

“Owing to forecast of heavy rain all day on Wednesday I am postponing the Sorby Mammal Group meeting to Thursday this week (24 hours later)

Sorry for any inconvenience or disappointment but there is not much point in getting a soaking on the moors on Wednesday when the following day looks a bit drier.”

Venue: Elsecar Heritage Centre.

Time: 11am until about 4pm.

Tutor: Derek Whiteley (Sorby Mammal Group).

We will be getting to grips with the identification of small mammal bones found in owl pellets using hand lenses and microscopes. The workshop is aimed at ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS but there will be opportunities to do more advanced stuff too. Mice, voles, shrews, mole, hedgehog, bats, mustelids, rabbits and hares will be covered plus other bits in owl pellets. We will have a go at sexing mammals from their pelvic bones. Lots of hands-on practical stuff.

This event is indoors. Tea, coffee and biscuits freely available but bring a packed lunch. This workshop is another joint event with the Dearne Valley Landscape Partnership.

THE WORKSHOP IS FREE, BUT BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL.
