Saturday 30th July – BioBlitz at General Cemetery, Sheffield – We need some volunteers to work on our desk for an hour or two between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm, talking to the public, helping with identification or doing a bit of recording. SIG collaboration with Friends of the General Cemetery.

Tuesday 2nd August – we are running a Family Bug Day at Wentworth Stainborough and need volunteers to help. We will have an “identification desk” in a tent or gazebo and will be giving pots and nets to visitors to go out and find stuff and bring it back – it is aimed at families so a chance to enthuse new people.

Weevils, the second largest beetle group after the Rove Beetles with over 650 species. Your chance to identify some of them using keys and identification guides. There will be plenty of reference specimens. Please bring along any specimens you may have. Beginners and improvers all welcome. 11am to around 4pm.

Tea and coffee and biscuits will be freely available but bring along a packed lunch or eat at the local café or pub.

It’s time again to dig out your recent images of invertebrate related material for the annual SIG picture show.

As ever, please consider looking out any photographs or items you would like to present. Whether it’s just one or two pictures, or a whole mini lecture you have in mind, please get in touch and book yourself a slot. Perhaps you’d like to show some places you’ve been, insects you’ve seen, images you need identifying or perhaps you have a quiz for us? All 10-20 minute slots are currently up for grabs. Whether a new or familiar face, I’d love to hear from you. Please get in touch as soon as possible or at least book the date in your diary.

The focus is on invertebrates, but all Sorby members are welcome.
