18. Bank Vole Clethrionomys glareolus

Generally distributed but absent from high ground and very scarce above the 1000-ft contour. Bank Voles should occur in most woodland with plenty of ground cover, and also hedgerows, gardens, scrubland, and carrs. The presence of thick ground cover seems to be the key factor. More survey work is required particularly in eastern areas.
