20. Water Vole Arvicola terrestris

1970-1997

1980-2000

This species is declining nationally and although this area does not seem to have shown a great decline so far the situation needs to be carefully monitored. Recent surveys seem to indicate that it is still present in most of its known localities. Localised declines seem to correlate well with known presence of Mink e.g. Rivelin, Loxley, Lower Moss. Distribution extends from lowland rivers, canals and ponds to small upland streams and cloughs.
