Still the best recorded mammal in the area due to diligent recording of molehills. Clearly absent from the central urban areas of Sheffield and Rotherham. Now appears to be less rare on moorland than was thought in 1980 although this is obviously a less favourable habitat. Genuinely scarce to the east in many arable agricultural areas. Other blank areas are likely to be under-recorded and will be targeted for additional fieldwork in the next two years.
