Less widespread than the Common Shrew. Few urban or suburban records for this species but there has been an increase in records on moorland to the north west of the city where it is the predominant shrew species. Very poorly recorded since 1980 with most records coming from discarded bottles and cans, and dead animals on high moorlands.
