5. Water Shrew Neomys fodiens

1970-1997

1980-2000 Interim map

One of our scarcer small mammals but still quite widely distributed with no signs of decline at present. Most records are from discarded bottles, live sightings and cat kills. Not uncommon in the Wye Valley. The map for 1980-2000 demonstrates that some sites have not been re-surveyed since the 1970's. More fieldwork is required.
