Records of dark coloured Polecat-Ferrets based on live sightings, dead animals and museum skins. Some of these records refer to feral colonies, and others may be escaped pets. Obvious pale-coloured escaped pets have been omitted from this map. Genuine Polecats Mustela putodus have recently spread to the area from the west. Extreme care should be taken with identifications including examination of skull characteristics of dead specimens.
