Come and learn how to identify mammals from a fleeting glimpse, from their calls, from museum skins, from skeletal remains and the many signs they leave behind. Plus "hands-on" experience of Longworth methods, owl pellet analysis and an opportunity to gain the Certificate in Basic Mammal Identification Skills (awarded by the Mammal Society/Field Studies Council) - a qualification to take home!!!
The workshop is being run by the Mammal Society/Sorby Mammal Group, and the tutor is Derek Whiteley, who has been down to the Mammal Society to train to be a trainer!
For non-residents (i.e. local people) the course runs from 9.30 am. to 5.00 pm. on Saturday and Sunday, with an optional activity on Saturday evening. It covers most British terrestrial mammals. Over 100 people successfully completed workshops in 1997.
All welcome, especially beginners! No previous knowledge is required.
