Bird Section Members Night

Wednesday 24 March 2010 (rescheduled meeting of 13th January, postponed for snow)

7.15 for 7.30 at the City Museum, Weston Park, Sheffield.

An opportunity to brighten the dark days of winter with a review of past year's birding holidays or expectations of the year to come. Possibilities on offer at the moment include Trinidad & Tobago, Galapagos Islands and Sri Lanka.

Gems of Potteric Carr

Sorby member Derek Bateson has turned to writing and has recently completed a 102 page book on the wildlife of Potteric Carr, including some 280 colour illustrations.

In eighteen sections, the book covers a range of wildlife from mammals and birds, through invertebrates, butterflies, moths, dragonflies, bugs, cellular and non-vascular plants, fungi, molluscs other arthropods and aquatic life, all to be found at Potteric Carr including lots of interesting life histories and details of recording techniques.

Sorby Record Special Series No. 14

The Atlas of the Water Beetles (Coleoptera) and Water Bugs (Hemiptera) of Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, and South Yorkshire, 1993 - 2005, by Robert Merritt, is now available as Sorby Record Special Series No. 14.

This long awaited book is packed with information (160 pages) about species and sites in all three counties with distribution maps of 221 species and some really nice colour pics to go with the site descriptions.
