Sorby Fungus Group was revitalised in July 2005 with an inaugural meeting held at Abbeydale Hamlet Museum. Previously it had existed as an ad hoc group of enthusiasts with various periods of activity.
The Group now provides a forum for people with an interest in fungi to meet and share their knowledge and information. It caters for all levels of expertise and encourages novices to improve their skills.
A number of regular Fungus Forays and other field meetings are held throughout the year, in which members get together in the field to observe and record fungi in well known localities or explore new areas. One or two indoor meetings each year enable members to show slides and exhibit specimens.
The Groupís Recorders maintain records of fungi in the Sorby region Ė South Yorkshire, North Derbyshire, the Peak National Park and North Nottinghamshire. People are urged to send their records and observations of fungi to one of the above addresses.
Former Sorby Fungus Recorders include Terence Bottomley, Patrick Harding, Tony Lyon and Bill McCausland.
The Groupís current database holds over 78,000 records and is growing rapidly.
If you are interested in fungi and live in or visit the Sorby region please contact us. We are always pleased to see new faces.
